L. Calpurnius Piso Frugi, 90 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 18 mm, 3.33 g, 3 h), a contemporary plated imitation. Irregular mint. Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind, X (mark of value); below chin, C. Rev. L•PISO FRVGI / ROMA Horseman galloping right, holding palm frond over his left shoulder and rains in his right hand; above, caduceus. Babelon (Calpurnia) 12a, Crawford 340/1, RBW 1251, and Sydenham 656 (for prototype). Lightly toned. Some scratches and minor breaks in plating, otherwise, very fine.

From the Joseph Markowitz Collection (1897-1981), brought to Israel in 1949 and kept in the family ever since.
